“The Vagina Monologues” originally debuted at UT in 2004. Since then it has been an annual event and become tradition to the student body.

Amazingly, the monologues have been performed in over 119 countries and translated into 45 languages.

They’re based on interviews between Eve Ensler, the founder and creator, and over 200 women of all backgrounds.

The topics of the monologues include sex, rape, love, masturbation, menstruation, orgasm, birth, the different names for the vagina and the vagina itself.

The production, its participants, and all its proceeds work towards diminishing the amount of violence against women and raising the awareness of this violence and of the ignorance aimed towards women and their bodies.

This year’s focus is women in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
If you haven’t heard of this project feel free to YouTube such monologues as, “Because he liked to look at it,” “My angry vagina” and “Under the Burqa.”

There are long pieces as well as short pieces and loud, blunt ones mixed in with a few slightly more modest ones.

Everyone is welcome and no acting experience is necessary. For more information check out www.vday.org, or stop by the P.E.A.C.E office in Vaughn 206.

Auditions will be held in the ResLife office on:
Nov. 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Nov. 19 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Nov. 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
